Fiddle Club

Presented by C&C Music Cooperative (Monday nights)

Virtual and leveled tunes classes for violinists! In addition to learning basic tunes, students will learn unique warm ups and technical exercises to support the repertoire such as: bowing drills, scales, finger patterns, strategies for foundations of improvising, transposition, fundamentals of comping/acting as an accompaniment instrument, reading from a lead sheet, brief historical/cultural background information.

Fiddle Friends (Level 1) is a good fit for students new to fiddle styles but with experience playing simple folk tunes in the keys of A and D Major. Students playing late Suzuki Book 1 pieces will be a good fit for this class. Early Book 1 students are welcome to join in and give it a try too! Many of the activities are accessible to multiple levels.

Middle Fiddles (Level 2) is appropriate for students ages 8-adult who are comfortable playing by ear in D, A and G Major. Students around Suzuki Book 2 will do well in this class. It is best if students have some prior experiences with simple fiddle/folk tunes.

Fiddlesticks (Level 3) is for student musicians (children-through adult) who are comfortable learning by ear in keys up to three sharps and two flats, and have experience with fiddle melody, comping and in various forms (reel, waltz, and polka). This class will introduce more advanced bowing, phrasing and variation.
